Episode 556 – 5YL Part 6: Legion Finger Puppets!

The Subs are joined by Derek Binns, who calls in from the future to discuss issue 6 of the 5YL series. We’re back from the Mordruverse and we’re starting to learn what has changed! We finish the episode with appropriately spoiler spaced talk of Doomsday Clock 10, and the implications for the Legion.

  1. Hi guys and Welcome Derek!
I’ve not been reading Doomsday Clock – I’ll wait for the Collection which will come out after the final issue, scheduled for when you’ve finished reviewing the Archie Legion!
    My thoughts:
I think Sun Boy did know he was working with the Dominators by now. That was kinda made clear in issue 28. But I agree he didn’t know at first. The poor guy was suckered in by a government that, for all he knew, wasn’t actually corrupt, just anti-Legion. They took him over bit by bit, with every step down the dark path sugar-coated with lies about everything being for “the good of Earth”. Even the Dominator ‘allies’ were likely introduced as being there for humanitarian aid.

One note about Extant – Jurgens named him first in Zero Hour. It wasn’t Johns.

The great Firestorm re-read you proposed – Don’t forget that amazing Extreme Justice run in the 90s. That run was on a par in terms of quality as the Timber Wolf mini-series! (Seriously – Please, please summarise that whole mini in one episode. Otherwise we will start looking back fondly at the great days of the Karate Kid run!)

Legion future. As a long time Avengers fan, I tremble in fear as to the prospect of Bendis getting hold of the Legion. I absolutely hated every Bendis comic I have ever read, this side of street level stuff like Jessica Jones. If that’s what it takes to get a Legion book to sell then I guess I’ll give it a try, but I’d get more enjoyment out of a 70s Conway/Ditko fill-in.

    Yours in trepidation….

PS. It’s not a problem if Saturn Girl ‘comes out’. Proty can adjust accordingly, I’m sure. 😉
